Guru-Shishya Parampara (GSP) Courses

The Living Tradition of Indian Classical Arts — Now Open to Students from India and the World

The Guru-Shishya Parampara

Long before classrooms and curricula existed, India had already perfected its own method of passing down the highest forms of knowledge — from one human being to another, in a bond of deep trust, discipline, and devotion. The Guru-Shishya Parampara is this ancient tradition: the teacher and the student, bound not merely by instruction, but by a shared commitment to an art form that is centuries old.

In this tradition, learning is not measured by examinations alone. It is measured by hours of riyaaz, by the gradual refinement of sur and taal, by the slow perfection of a mudra or a brushstroke. The student does not simply attend a class — they immerse themselves. They inhabit the art.

At Pracheen Kala Kendra, we have honoured this tradition since 1956. Our Guru-Shishya Parampara Courses are designed for students who are ready to commit fully — to give not just a few hours a week, but their days, their focus, and their dedication to the serious study of Indian classical music, dance, or fine arts.

These are intensive, full-time courses conducted at our Mohali campus, where students spend their days in learning, practice, and artistic growth under the close guidance of our senior faculty — many of them distinguished performers and examiners with decades of experience. This is not a hobby class. This is a calling answered.

Who These Courses Are For

  • Students from India who wish to pursue classical arts as a vocation, career, or lifelong discipline
  • Graduates or working practitioners looking to deepen and formalise their training at the postgraduate level
  • International students accepted under the Lata Mangeshkar Dance & Music Scholarship Scheme (formerly the ICCR Scholarship Scheme), who come to India to immerse themselves in the living traditions of Indian classical arts

All students — Indian and international — study together on campus in Mohali, learning and practising within the same tradition, under the same Gurus.
