Located on the first floor of the Pracheen Kala Kendra complex in Sector 35, Chandigarh, the Guru M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium stands as a premier cultural space dedicated to the performing arts. Originally established as the Bhaskar Rao Indoor Auditorium with a seating capacity of over 150 people, the hall was designed to nurture artistic performances and provide an intimate setting for music, dance, and theatre.
In 2017, the auditorium suffered a major setback when a fire incident damaged the entire first floor of the Kendra, leading to the loss of the Bhaskar Auditorium. However, with the blessings of the Almighty and the relentless efforts of the Kendra, the space was fully renovated and reborn in 2018 as the Guru M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium. The grand inauguration was graced by none other than Grammy Award winner and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, marking a new chapter in the Kendra’s journey of promoting Indian classical arts.
Today, the Guru M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium has become one of Chandigarh’s most reputed cultural venues. Equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics, advanced sound technology, and a modern lighting system, the auditorium is designed to enhance the experience of both performers and audiences alike. Its compact yet elegant setting makes it ideal for classical music recitals, dance performances, lecture-demonstrations, seminars, and other cultural events.
The auditorium also hosts Pracheen Kala Kendra’s regular Monthly Baithaks—a cherished tradition that offers art lovers the opportunity to witness eminent and emerging artists in an intimate space. In addition, the hall often serves as the venue for special cultural programmes, workshops, and festivals, continuing Kendra’s mission to preserve and promote India’s rich performing arts heritage.
With its deep historical significance, modern amenities, and vibrant cultural programming, the Guru M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium is not just an auditorium, but a living hub of creativity and performance where tradition meets excellence.
